๐Harem meaning a separate part of a muslim household reserved for wives, concubines and female servants.
๐As the title suggests, this book by Dr. Rawat basically deals with the women of the mughal harem i.e. from the harem of Babur to the Harem of Aurangzeb.
๐It informs us about the harem of six generations of the mughal dynasty.
๐The harem of various mughal rulers has been elaborated in the Book-
Babur (1483-1530)
Humayun (1508-1556)
Akbar (1542-1605)
Jahangir (1569-1627)
Shahjahan (1618-1707)
๐It also mentions as to why medival age wasn't a good time for women as they we're subjected to discrimination, bigotry and a polygamous household.
๐Dr. Rawat conveys harem life to be luxurious alongwith limited role of women. Although, exceptions like Nurjahan, Jahanara and Zeb-un-nisa existed as well.
๐Also, there was a fusion of hindu and muslim cultures as the Mughal rulers married Rajput women and brought them in to the harem.
๐Dr. Rawat not only writes about the harem but also gives us a sneak peek in to the private life of the Mughals.
๐This book is worth buying for all those history enthusiasts.
๐But, I personally feel it to be a must read for everyone as Dr. Rawat states- 'It is very important to be apprised about one's roots, one's past and one's history. No nation or race can survive without the knowledge of its past- whether good or bad, glorious or miserable.'
